Horse Supplements
Different horses have different nutritional needs. Some require joint support, others need a hoof strengthener, and still others need help maintaining weight. Here are some supplements that have benefited horses we've owned, trained, or boarded over the years. As our horses aged, they needed joint support, particularly those who were involved in jumping. Cosequin ASU helped them stay sound. Omega HorseShine not only helped our horses maintain sleek and shiny coats, it also seemed to give them better focus in their work.
Tri-Amino contains three essential amino acids your horse needs to build muscle. This supplement receives high marks at SmartPakEquine and Amazon.
Digest Aid: As our horses aged, they needed a bit more help digesting their hay. Digest Aid contains an enzyme that helps break down the fibrous cellulose in hay. Sometimes "hard keepers" also just need a bit of digestive aid rather than more food in order to maintain a healthy weight.
Thoroughbreds are notorious for having weak or "shaley" hooves. We found that Farrier's Formula really helped them build strong hooves. It's combination of ingredients are vital for building hair and hoof.
AniMed Rice Bran Oil is a great nutritional supplement, particularly for hot breed horses. It not only adds calories to their feed, it also calms them down, and makes their coats shiny. If you are having trouble keeping weight on your TB and she is also fidgety, you might want to try replacing some of her grain with this. I wrote more about this here.
